Conductivity meters and EC meters require regular calibration against a known standard solution to ensure measurement accuracy. Our conductivity calibration standards include the widely used 1413 uS/cm solution — the international reference point for most conductivity meter calibration routines — as well as higher-range standards suitable for saline and industrial process monitoring applications. Available in convenient 250 mL and 500 mL sizes, our EC calibration solutions are compatible with Milwaukee Meters conductivity instruments and most other leading brands. For laboratories operating under quality management systems or regulatory compliance frameworks, using a certified conductivity standard is essential documentation for audit trails and measurement traceability.
A well-maintained electrode is a long-lasting electrode. Our electrode cleaning solutions are specially formulated to dissolve protein deposits, grease, and mineral build-up that accumulate on pH and ORP electrode membranes during regular use — contaminants that left untreated, cause sluggish response times, drifting readings, and premature electrode failure. Use our electrode storage solution to keep your electrode junction hydrated between measurement sessions, preventing the drying and cracking that shortens sensor life. Storing a pH electrode in the correct storage solution — not tap water, not buffer solution — can more than double its operational lifespan. Both cleaning and storage solutions are available individually or as part of our Maintenance Solution Kit, which combines everything you need in a single, cost-effective pack.
New to pH or EC measurement? Our Starter Solution Kits take the guesswork out of getting set up. The pH Starter Kit includes pH 4.01, pH 7.0, and pH 10.0 buffer solutions plus electrode storage & cleaning solutions — covering both your daily calibration, cleaning and between-session electrode care in a single purchase. For users who also measure conductivity, our pH/EC Starter Kit adds the 1413 uS/cm EC standard, giving you a complete calibration toolkit for multi-parameter meters. Available in 250 mL and 500 mL bottle sizes, our kits represent excellent value compared to purchasing solutions individually, and they are the recommended starting point for laboratories, field teams, and technicians setting up a new instrument for the first time. All kits ship Australia-wide with fast dispatch.
Not all calibration solutions are interchangeable, and selecting the wrong standard can introduce measurement errors rather than correct them. As a general guide: use pH 4.01 and pH 7.0 buffer solutions for two-point calibration of acidic-range applications such as soil testing, swimming pool monitoring, and food & beverage quality control. Add pH 10.0 for three-point calibration when your measurements span the full pH scale, such as in wastewater treatment or laboratory analysis. For ORP (oxidation-reduction potential) meters, use the dedicated ORP calibration standard — do not substitute pH buffer. For conductivity meters, match your calibration standard to the expected measurement range of your samples.
If you are unsure which solutions are compatible with your specific instrument, our water quality experts are available on 1300 662 720 to help you select the right calibration products for your application.
For most applications, calibrate your pH meter at the start of each measurement session — or at minimum once daily when in regular use. In critical applications (food safety, laboratory analysis, environmental compliance), calibrate before every use with fresh buffer solution. Conductivity meters should be calibrated weekly for routine use, or before each use in regulated environments. Factors like temperature swings, heavy use, and aggressive samples can cause electrode drift, so more frequent calibration is always better than less. If your meter's readings seem inconsistent, recalibrate immediately.
Most pH meters support two-point or three-point calibration. For two-point calibration, use pH 4.01 and pH 7.0 buffer solutions — the standard combination for general-purpose, food & beverage, and water quality applications. For three-point calibration, add pH 10.0 buffer solution to cover the full pH scale. We stock all three individually or as a convenient 3-Pack in 250 mL and 500 mL.<br>Unsure which your meter supports? Call our team on 1300 662 720.
Always discard buffer solution after each calibration session — never pour it back into the original bottle, as electrode contact can contaminate the stock. Dispense only what you need into a clean container, calibrate, then discard. Sealed bottles remain stable for 12–24 months; once opened, use within 6-12 months. Replace immediately if the solution appears cloudy or discoloured.
Each buffer is a certified reference point at a specific pH value. pH 4.01 is an acidic standard for low-pH samples like wine, soil, and fruit juice. pH 7.0 is the neutral standard and the most common single calibration point, suitable for drinking water and general lab use. pH 10.0 is an alkaline standard for measurements in the basic range, such as wastewater and cleaning products. Using all three together in a three-point calibration gives the broadest accuracy across the full pH scale.
No. Once a pH electrode has been immersed in buffer solution, electrode electrolyte can leach in and atmospheric CO2 can dissolve into it, shifting the certified pH value. Using contaminated buffer produces an inaccurate calibration — and therefore inaccurate measurements. Always dispense fresh buffer into a clean beaker for each session and discard after use.
Electrode storage solution keeps pH and ORP electrode membranes hydrated when not in use. Allowing an electrode to dry out — even briefly — can crack the membrane or clog the junction, causing slow response and unstable readings. Fill the protective cap with storage solution between sessions and fully immerse the electrode for long-term storage. Never store a pH electrode in distilled water or buffer solution — only in the correct storage solution.
