An anemometer is a precision instrument used to measure wind speed and air flow, essential for environmental monitoring, HVAC testing, agricultural spraying, workplace heat-stress compliance and industrial applications. Pacific Sensor Technologies stocks professional-grade handheld anemometers from Kestrel, MadgeTech and Center — built for accuracy and durability in the field, not just casual home use.
Our range includes rotating-vane Kestrel wind meters for fast, reliable wind speed and weather readings, hot-wire anemometers (Center 332) for high-sensitivity indoor airflow and HVAC testing, and multi-function Kestrel environmental meters that add humidity, temperature and heat-stress (WBGT) readings alongside wind speed — everything from a basic pocket wind meter to a full workplace heat-stress compliance instrument.

The Kestrel range covers everything from the entry-level Kestrel 1000 pocket wind meter through to the Kestrel 5200 Professional Environmental Meter — rugged, factory-calibrated instruments trusted by agronomists, HVAC technicians and emergency services across Australia.
The CENTER 332 hot-wire anemometer uses a heated sensor element to detect low-speed airflow that cup or vane anemometers can miss — ideal for HVAC duct testing, cleanroom airflow verification and indoor environmental monitoring.
Kestrel’s rotating-vane design (used across the 1000–5200 series) spins in the airstream to give an instant, accurate wind speed reading — the most common and field-proven anemometer type for outdoor and industrial use.
The Kestrel 5400 Heat Stress Tracker measures Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) alongside wind speed, humidity and radiant heat — giving you the data needed for Safe Work Australia heat-stress compliance during summer outdoor and industrial work.

An anemometer measures wind speed and air velocity. Some models — such as the Kestrel 3000 and 5000 series — also measure relative humidity, temperature and heat stress (WBGT).
The three main types are cup anemometers (spinning cups), vane anemometers (a propeller that aligns with the wind — used across the Kestrel range), and hot-wire anemometers (a heated sensor for detecting low-speed indoor airflow — used in the CENTER 332).
Vane anemometers are built for outdoor wind speed measurement and need reasonable airflow to spin. Hot-wire anemometers can detect much lower air speeds, making them better suited to HVAC ducts, cleanrooms and other indoor airflow testing.
For workplace heat-stress (WBGT) monitoring or other compliance applications, a factory-calibrated instrument such as the Kestrel 5400 is recommended.
Not reliably. Phone wind apps typically estimate from GPS or weather-service data rather than measuring airflow directly — a dedicated anemometer is required for accurate, field-verifiable readings.
