Every instrument on this page measures relative humidity and temperature. Most also derive dew point — the temperature at which the air being measured would begin to condense — and several add wet bulb temperature. Those four readings answer different questions. Relative humidity tells you the condition of the space now. Dew point tells you whether condensation will form on a surface, which is what matters for compressed air lines, cold-store walls, electronics and coatings. Wet bulb temperature is what evaporative cooling and psychrometric calculations are built on.
The practical difference between a $20 room gauge and the instruments here is stated accuracy and whether it can be proven. A consumer hygrometer typically claims ±5% RH with no traceability. The COMET C3631 on this page is specified to ±1.8% RH, and any instrument here can be supplied with a traceable calibration certificate — which is what an auditor, a validation protocol or an ISO 9001 procedure will ask you for.
None in practice — they are two names for the same instrument. Hygrometer is the older scientific term; humidity meter is the more common trade term. Both describe a device that measures the water vapour content of air, usually reported as relative humidity.
It depends what the reading is for. General comfort or storage monitoring is well served by ±3% RH. Laboratory, cleanroom, calibration and validation work generally calls for ±2% RH or better, and needs a traceable calibration certificate to be defensible in an audit. Consumer hygrometers typically claim ±5% RH with no traceability at all.
Yes. Any instrument on this page can be supplied with a traceable calibration certificate. This is normally required for ISO 9001, GMP, HACCP and NATA-aligned procedures, and it is the practical difference between an instrument you can use in a validated process and one you cannot.
Most instruments here derive dew point from measured relative humidity and temperature. For compressed air specifically, the COMET C3121P is a handheld dew point meter rated to 25 bar and the D3121P is its logging
equivalent. For fixed, permanently installed measurement, see our dew point sensors and transmitters.
Wet bulb temperature is the lowest temperature air can reach by evaporative cooling at its current humidity. It is used in HVAC, cooling-tower and psychrometric calculations. The CENTER 316, 317 and 318 display it, calculated from measured relative humidity and temperature.
Not in the strict sense. A psychrometer measures humidity using a dry-bulb and a wetted wet-bulb thermometer. The instruments here are electronic capacitive hygrometers; those that show a wet bulb reading
calculate it rather than measure it directly. For most HVAC and building applications the calculated value is what is actually used.
For general occupied spaces 40–60% RH is the usual target — below 40% causes static and material shrinkage, above 60% encourages mould and dust mites. Museums and archives typically hold 45–55% RH
with tight stability. Cleanrooms, GMP areas and electronics assembly work to whatever their own protocol specifies, which is why traceable calibration matters more than the setpoint.
Yes. Pacific Sensor Tech supplies both Australia and New Zealand from Australian stock.
Measuring Range: 0-100% RH, or 20-90% RH, or 10-95% RH
Accuracy models are from ±2% RH (High accuracy) up to ±5% RH
Power source – battery, USB, solar or AC adapter.
Display. Digital or analogue (as a dial or readout). Easy-to-read display type. LCD or LED display.
Plastic, metal, stainless steel, and glass are durable materials.
Calibrated (Factory calibrated, user adjustable or non-calibrated)
Units for humidity
% RH (Relative Humidity): This is the default unit.
g/m³: Air moisture (absolute)
Dew point: to show the temp when moisture can condense
Connectivity and Features
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi: To monitor remotely.
Alarm: sounds when above a certain level of humidity.
Data Logging—Records humidity as it changes over a period of time
Residential – the inhibition of mould and maintaining of comfortable temperature conditions.
Industrial – To monitor humidity for fragile machinery
Laboratories: The site for the experiments which provides an experiment with an environment which has its variables, such as light and temperature, controlled.
Classes of Hygrometers
Analogue: general use, older dial type.
Digital: Gives a highly accurate reading with a digital display, easily viewable.
Psychrometer: Calculated using two thermometers for the determination of the relative humidity of air.
The temperature at which water would begin to condense is called the ‘dew point’.
