Choosing the right pulse data logger comes down to four things: the type and speed of your meter’s pulse output, whether you need wired or wireless data collection, how many inputs you’re logging, and the environment the logger will live in.
Start by checking your meter’s pulse specification — the pulse rate (pulses per litre, m³ or kWh) and whether it uses a contact-closure (reed switch) or voltage pulse. Then match it to a logger with a high enough maximum pulse rate and the right input type.
For remote sites, choose an NB-IoT or 4G wireless models; for stand-alone audits, a wired or Bluetooth logger is simplest and most cost-effective.
A pulse data logger is a recording device that counts and time-stamps the pulse-output signals from meters and sensors — for example one pulse per litre from a water meter or one pulse per kWh from an energy meter. It converts those pulses into a stored data record of flow, consumption or events over time.
It connects to a device’s pulse or contact-closure output. Each time the meter sends a pulse, the logger increments a count and records the timestamp. Software then converts the pulse count into engineering units (litres, m³, kWh, etc.) and shows totals, rates and trends.
State loggers record on/off status changes, event loggers record the time each event occurs, and pulse loggers count high-frequency pulses within each interval — best when pulses arrive too quickly to log individually. Yes. Water-meter pulse logging is one of the most common uses. As long as your water meter has a pulse or reed-switch output (e.g. 1 pulse per litre or per 10 litres), a pulse logger will record consumption for sub-metering, leak detection and billing verification.
Yes. Most electricity and gas meters provide a pulse output proportional to consumption. A pulse logger records these for energy audits, tenant sub-metering and demand profiling. Match the logger’s maximum pulse rate to your meter’s output frequency.
